Robert Judson Smith II's Obituary
This Man.This Man who was never defined by his 44 years as a communications specialist for AT&T or his service in the Army as a sergeant in the Vietnam War. Yet he quietly served and did his duty. This Man, however, was defined by how he touched the lives of people around him. This Man never met a stranger. This Man struck up conversations with passersby in the grocery store, random individuals standing next to him at a concert, guests at parties, and on and on.This Man’s gift rests behind the gaze of his deep blue eyes and shine of his wide sparkling smile. This Man’s gift was a deep sense of caring, of acceptance, and taking personal interest in one’s life. He never forgot your story and always asked for updates. This Man was that person who called to check on you just at the right moment to make you feel as everything will be ok.This Man is survived by many loved ones, both friends and family: his life partner of 32 years, Mark Williamson and their dog Dexter, and two cats Jax and Halle of Dallas, TX. His immediate family and deep roots to Oklahoma; his sister and brother-in-law Cindy and Tom Mansur of Tulsa, Ok, their daughter (niece) Andrea Aitken, and her son (great nephew) Ewan Aitken both of Boerne, TX; His brother and sister-in-law Bruce and Patti Smith; their sons (nephews) Brandon and Tanner Smith, and Tanner’s two children Trent and Serenity Smith (great niece and nephew), all from Edmond, OK.This Man had the fortune to retire from the work world and enjoy his last years doing exactly what he wanted. His days were filled with Spanish lessons at C.C. Young, acting workshops with the Skillman Players, voice lessons with his longtime coach Anne Jenkins, opera workshops at Brookhaven Community College, performing on stage in a multitude of productions with the Skillman Players and with the Senior Follies. This man’s passion for singing took him to nearly every karaoke bar in Dallas (and several in Mexico). Wherever he traveled, he researched the Karaoke scene before going. With this enthusiasm, he met many fantastic people and sang his heart out on those stages. He loved to entertain and make people happy.Outside of performing arts, This Man had many diverse interests. Together with his partner, they traveled the world where they soaked up their joy for adventure. Whether it be white water rafting in Costa Rica, zip lining between mountains in Whistler, island hopping in the Mediterranean Sea, climbing the sacred grounds of Machu Piccu in Peru, kissing in front of the Mona Lisa, honing culinary and wine skills with cooking classes in Tuscany, attending theater at some of the most iconic stages in the world, or exploring the greatest public/private gardens and museums known within cultural circles, this man lived a full life. This man is a friend. This man is a brother. This man is an uncle. This man is a husband. This man is loved. This man is Bob. A Funeral Service for Robert will be held on August 3, 2019 at 2:30 pm at Restlands’ Memorial Chapel.
