Robert Dewitt Steele's Obituary
Robert Dewitt Steele, passed away at the age of 82 on December 14, 2014, in Dallas, Texas, where he had lived for 48 years. He was born in San Antonio, Texas, to Dewitt D. and Velma Nicholas Steele. He was a graduate of Corpus Christi High School and served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict. On August 14, 1955, he married Nell Beth Sansing at the First Methodist Church in Higgins, Texas. After receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M in 1960, he was employed by Texas Pacific Coal & Oil Company and Sun Oil Company. A certified Professional Engineer, he served a number of years as an American Petroleum Institute Standards Committee member. He thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors and took great pleasure in teaching his children how to hunt, fish, and appreciate working on the family ranch. After retirement, he enjoyed extensive research of his family’s genealogy. He was a member of the Lake Highlands United Methodist Church and was a Master Mason. A devoted father, he served as Boy Scout Troop 415 Camping Chairman while his two sons were achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. He is preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Nell; daughter, Diane Elaine Moulton of Fredericksburg VA; sons, Charles Douglas Steele of Rio Rancho, NM and Robert Allen Steele of Dallas, TX; granddaughters Courtney Lynn and Angela Beth Moulton; grandsons Chance Ethan and Parker Allen Steele; sisters Dorothy Ellis of Tyler, TX and Marilyn Barnett of Austin, TX; brother, Charles W. Steele and wife Kathy of Bertram, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Robert will be at 02:30 PM on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at Restland Memorial Chapel, with visitation one hour prior. An additional funeral service for Robert will also be held Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Higgins United Methodist Church, Higgins, TX, followed by interment at the Higgins Cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75238 at Restland Road. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Higgins United Methodist Church, Higgins, TX; Lake Highlands United Methodist Church, Dallas, TX; or MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX.
