Mr. Robert Wray Stephens' Obituary
Robert Wray Stephens, son of Robert Wesley Stephens and Ola Lucille Wray, was born in Dallas, Texas on August 27, 1930 and died December 29, 2021 when he was 91 years of age.
He graduated from Highland Park High School and SMU and served in the Korean War, during which he visited many foreign ports and received one commendation. After the war was over he joined the corporate world but it was short lived. His passion became the Texas Rangers and he devoted the rest of his life studying and researching their beginning. He numbered among his friends most of the Texas Rangers of his time, relationships in which he took great pride. He was considered by many to be the country’s leading authority on the history of the Texas Rangers. He was also an accomplished author, publishing ten books, genealogist and amateur archaeologist specializing in military artifacts.
He was intensely proud of his Scottish heritage and the fact that his family immigrated to this country before the Pilgrims came. He referred to others as “latecomers.”
Bob was a member of Genesis Bible Church, the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and the Shrine. He married late in life and leaves no immediate survivors except his wife, Mary Jane Whitt Stephens. He outlived his family and most of his friends and now that he has joined them he has at last found peace.
It was his firm belief that death is a beginning, not an end.
