Robert James Symon's Obituary
Robert James Symon, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and faithful steward of the Lord, entered into the presence of his Savior at the age of 94 on December 8, 2025.
Robert was born on April 19, 1931, at his parents’ home in Fair Lawn, New Jersey, to Albert and Tilly Symon. Even as a young boy growing up during the Great Depression, Robert’s resourcefulness and strong work ethic were evident—he sold bread and delivered newspapers to help his family.
At age 17, Robert moved to Saddle River, New Jersey, where he completed high school. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Rutgers University in 1953 and later pursued advanced courses in accounting and finance at New York University.
In June 1953, Robert married the love of his life, Elizabeth (“Betty”) Cooper, his wife of 72 years. That November, he joined the United States Army and served honorably in the Budget and Finance Group. During his service, he and Elizabeth welcomed their first daughter, Nancy, in July 1954, followed by Elaine the next summer. Their family grew with the birth of their third daughter, Carol, in 1959.
Robert’s professional life reflected his dedication and integrity. From 1955 to 1977, he served as a CPA with Arthur Andersen & Co. in New York City and Rochester, New York. In 1977, Robert and Elizabeth relocated to Dallas, where he became Chief Financial Officer of Triangle Pacific Co., faithfully serving until his retirement in 1999.
Robert trusted Christ as Lord and Savior at a revival meeting at age 17 and served faithfully in many roles throughout his life, always looking forward to the day he would see his Savior face to face. Since moving to Dallas, Robert and Elizabeth were devoted members of Believers Chapel. Robert later served on the PVN Foundation Board of Trustees, contributing his financial wisdom as treasurer for several years. His life was marked by integrity, kindness, generosity, and a steady trust in Christ.
Of all his accomplishments, Robert especially cherished time with his family. He took great joy in being “Pa” to his five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense happiness.
Robert viewed his life as a stewardship of God’s gifts, and the Master he served was faithful to him in turn until the very end. He leaves behind a legacy of love, integrity, and service to God and others. Though he will be deeply missed, his family takes comfort knowing he is now at home with his Lord.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff at PVN Memory Care for the compassionate care and support provided to Robert in his final days.
“Well done, good and faithful servant… enter into the joy of your Master.” — Matthew 25:21
