Robert Minor Washington's Obituary
Robert Minor Washington was the first of four children born to Laura Mae Smith Washington and Robert Frank Washington on March 4, 1932 in Lexington, Mississippi. Robert “Bob” attended the public schools of Lexington, Mississippi.Upon graduation Bob moved to Chicago, Illinois and started a new life there. He served his county as a soldier in the United States Army from January 8, 1953 to October 25, 1954 and was discharged with the rank of Corporal. Bob worked for the Ford Motor Company where he earned many distinctions. He prided himself on having a stellar work ethic. He retired after thirty years of service, distinguished by perfect attendance.Bob was a car aficionado. Friends and family marveled at his immaculate attention to his vehicles. Even after years of use, each one always looked as if it just rolled off the assembly line. Bob was also a stylish dresser. This included a vast array of suits, shoes and hats. Most of all, Bob was a jazz lover. He regularly attended performances at some of Chicago’s popular venues and met jazz celebrities. His compact disk collection demonstrates his love of the musical genre.When his health declined, Bob relocated to Dallas in January of 2015 and was a resident of Parson’s House. Bob endeared himself to the staff and took a special place in their lives. He peacefully transitioned on Sunday, June 24, 2018.His is survived by his sister, Laura W. Rhyne (Dallas, TX) and brother John Percy Washington, Sr. (Moreno Valley, CA), one brother-in-law George E. Rhyne, Sr., one sister in law Bobbie Jean Washington, and a host of nieces, nephews and a host of friends.The visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00 PM on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at Restland Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 29, 2018 at Restland Cemetery.
