He served in the United States Army from 1967-1970. He was a Specialist 5 and spent two years in Pirmasens, Germany, where he worked as a crypto repairman and held a top secret security clearance. When Robert returned from Germany, he was employed at Lone Star Gas Company in Dallas, working in Information Technology for 26 years. He also worked in Information Technology at Raytheon in Greenville for six years. Before he retired, he owned a lawn care business and was honored to count Criswell College among his clients. Robert married Marcia Roland on March 20, 1971, and was a devoted husband throughout his life. He loved his family and friends and always enjoyed helping people. In May of 1971 Robert and Marcia joined the First Baptist Church of Dallas and have been blessed to be a part of this wonderful church throughout these decades. Robert had many interests. He was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan and tried to never miss watching one of their games. He loved baseball and the Texas Rangers. Music was always a big part of his life. As a child and young adult he enjoyed playing the accordion. He loved to hear the Sanctuary Choir and was honored to be a member for a few years. Most of all, he loved playing with his nieces and nephews and they always looked forward to seeing Uncle Robert. In 2006 our beloved Robert was diagnosed with frontotemporal degeneration and truly he “fought the good fight” as he lived with this disease. We appreciate the love, concern and prayers of our family and friends during his long illness. Robert loved the Lord, loved his Pastors and he loved his church. He was very honored to be ordained a deacon at First Baptist and always enjoyed being able to serve where needed. For many years he served as a greeter in the Welcome Center on the parking lot next to the old Criswell Building and he also served as an usher on Sunday mornings in the 10:50 a.m. service. He was truly grateful for the opportunity to serve his Lord and his church and always enjoyed telling others about and inviting them to First Baptist Dallas. The family will be accepting guests at Restland Funeral Home Friday, January 19th, 2018 from 6-8pm. A Funeral Service will be held at First Baptist Dallas on Saturday, January 20th, 2018 at 11am.
