Robin Jeffry Robbins' Obituary
Robin Jeffry “Red” Robbins died unexpectedly February 24, 2023.
Rob was born in Dallas, TX on May 4th, 1958, to William L and Elizabeth Robbins.
He attended Lakewood Elementary first through fifth grade, sixth and seventh grade at Dan D Rogers, then Franklin Junior High. Rob went to Hillcrest High School for 10th through 12th grade, where he graduated a Bicentennial Senior. He made lifelong friends at every step of the way.
Red loved sports, from YMCA to Park League, BBI, grade school through high school, Eastfield College, and Southwestern University, as well as countless summers and winters of church and business softball. There were also many years of Strat-O-Matic Baseball.
Rob worked as a yard man, a 7-Eleven clerk, a teacher, and a coach.
Red was the Hillcrest High School Ambassador for anyone attending and/or graduating Hillcrest from 1975-1979. Red single-handedly kept this large group connected for over 45 years.
In 1981, at the age of 23, Red was paralyzed in a car accident. He lived the rest of his life a quadriplegic. Most quads survive an average of 20 years, but Red thrived for 43 years through the dedicated care of Mom, Pops, great nurses, and friends.
Red’s physical condition was the least remarkable thing about him – he never let it define him. The most remarkable thing about Red was the size of his heart and his unlimited capacity to care for others. Red was selfless, giving, and thoughtful. He had no enemies; he wasted no time on judging people or finding fault. Red saw the good in everyone.
Red’s positive outlook was infectious. He gave everyone he met a reason to be thankful. Red was optimistic, hopeful, and a genuinely kind person.
Rob will be dearly missed by many. Some he touched in passing and others who enjoyed his lifetime friendship. The Strat-O-Matic gaming community is a poorer place without him. Rob’s legacy will be the countless lives he touched and the gifts of happiness and joy he spread. Now he’s running the field, shooting hoop, and back on the hot corner.
Rob is survived by his brother, Tommy Doak Robbins, his uncle, Billy Davis, beloved cousins, and numerous friends. Rob was preceded in death by his father, William L Robbins, his mother, Elizabeth Robbins, and his aunt, Mattie Lou Davis. Services will be held at Restland Funeral Ho
