Rodger James Mitchell's Obituary
Born March 7, 1930 in Harvey, Illinois, passed away December 1, 2009, from complications of pulmonary disease in Dallas, Texas. Rodger was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Genevieve Mitchell; brothers, Donald Mitchell and Paul Mitchell; and stepmother Helen Ware. He is survived by his loving family: his wife of 53 years Shirley; his daughter Susan Montgomery and her husband, Clint; sons Blakey and his wife, Sue; and Matthew and his wife, Robin, as well as many dear friends. Rodger was a graduate of Sunset High School in Dallas and the University of North Texas where he was a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity and The Talons. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. Rodger’s career in banking and investments included Republic National Bank Dallas, Solomon Brothers, First National Bank of Commerce New Orleans, Citizens Bank of Richardson, Murchison Banking Interests, Mitchell & English Company, Moffett Capital Management, The Senior Source, and Region 10 Education Service Center. His community involvement included Dallas Metropolitan YMCA Board of Directors, Richardson YMCA Board of Directors, University of Texas at Dallas Advisory Council School of Science, and numerous civic organizations in New Orleans. His professional activities included Reserve City Bankers, Southwest Graduate School of Banking faculty at SMU, and the School of Banking of the South faculty at LSU. He was a past member of Royal Oaks Country Club, Canyon Creek Country Club, and the Dallas Athletic Club. He was a member of Lovers Lane United Methodist Church. The family requests the in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Salvation Army or the charity of your choice.
