Rodney Maceo Williams' Obituary
Rodney M. Williams Sr, 85 passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 1, 2020 surrounded by family.
Rodney was born in Miami, Florida on March 28, 1935 to Daniel and Willie Mae Williams. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and shortly afterwards he enlisted into the United States Airforce where he served his country for four years at England Airforce Base in Alexandria, Louisiana. There he met and married Ollie Jean Pantallion in 1958, his wife of 62 years. To this union, one child was born, Rodney M. Williams Jr.
In 1959, Rodney attended St. Paul’s College in Lawrenceville, Virginia where he received a bachelor’s degree in political science. He then taught history in Brunswick County, Virginia until he decided to enroll in law school at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. There he earned a juris doctor and in 1970, accepted a job with the United States Civil Service Commission in Washington D.C. He transferred to the Dallas office in 1977 and later retired in 1990.
Rodney enjoyed Dallas Cowboy footballs games on Sundays, as he was a season ticket holder for many years and was also an avid stamp collector. His passion was working and dedicating himself with church as he was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Dallas, Texas for many years where he served in many capacities. He later joined the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Richardson, Texas where he served until the time of his passing. He was also an active member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, North Dallas Chapter.
His greatest passion was being a grandfather. He so dearly loved his grandchildren and was affectionately known as “Grandpa”. His grandchildren loved him dearly and enjoyed many fond memories of feeding the ducks at the park, catching fireflies, and listening to his stories.
Rodney is survived by his wife, Ollie Jean P. Williams of Richardson, Texas, son, Rodney M. Williams Jr. (Maria) of Forney, Texas, Grandchildren Rodney M. Williams III, Samantha N. Williams, and Esteban Diaz and numerous friends and other relatives.
