Roger Allen DeSalme's Obituary
DESALME, ROGER ALLEN passed away peacefully on January 17, 2014. Roger was born October 2, 1927 in Dallas, Texas to Eugene Paul DeSalme and Rose Elmore (Brown) DeSalme. He grew up in the Park Cities, graduated from Highland Park High School in 1945 and attended Southern Methodist University, graduating with a degree in Electrical Engineering, later finishing his masters’ coursework in Statistics. He married Jacqueline S. Gallahan in 1946. He attended and was a deacon at Highland Park Presbyterian Church. He and his wife taught a young couples’ class there for several years. He enjoyed playing the piano, played in a dance band in high school, taught his children to play and played for them many nights as they were falling asleep. Roger worked for Chance Vought, Texas Instruments and the Southland Corporation, where he was a Systems Analyst in statistical forecasting and finances. He retired in 1992 after 25 years with Southland. One of his co-workers at Southland Corporation described him as very plain-spoken, intelligent and full of integrity. Roger is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Betty Jean DeSalme Jensen. He is survived by his children Michele DeSalme, Allen DeSalme and Camille DeSalme, all of Dallas, Texas, and their mother, Jacqueline S. Gallahan DeSalme, along with nieces Jean Jensen Eckert of Abilene and Judi Jensen Volk of Dallas, and nephew Eric DeSalme Jensen of North Bend, Washington, along with all their children and grandchildren. We thank the loving people of Walnut Place Nursing Home for their kind and devoted care of our father and Faith Presbyterian Hospice for their wonderful care the last days of his life. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at Restland Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at Sparkman Hillcrest and will be private. Roger’s wish was to be laid to rest beside his beloved parents. A memorial service will be held at NorthPark Presbyterian Church, located at 9555 N. Central Expressway, Dallas, Texas 75231, on January 25, 2014 at 2:00 in the afternoon with a reception following the service. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice or to the American Diabetes Association, the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America or to Faith Presbyterian Hospice.
