Roger Alan Mallett's Obituary
Roger Alan Mallett was born on July 20, 1954, to Carlene and C. B. Mallett at Dallas’s Baylor Hospital during an extreme heat wave with temperatures exceeding 110. He attended Martha Turner Reilly Elementary School when his mom and Principal Boone could persuade him to stay, Robert T. Hill Middle School where he enrolled in band because the band hall was airconditioned, and Bryan Adams High School. He graduated from the University of Texas in Austin with a bachelor’s in business, shoulder-length hair, a motorcycle, and a beloved Irish Setter, Buddy.
Roger spent several years in corporate America before realizing that he preferred to leverage his building and technical skills and fierce independence as a tradesman. He was a trained and licensed HVAC Technician and Master Electrician. In 1986, he married Jan, and Alana, Caleb, Eli, Travis, and Zane were joyful additions to their full house. After apprenticing at several local HVAC companies, he launched his personal HVAC business to coincide with the birth of his daughter, Alana, in 1989. Roger specialized in residential heating and cooling, and as the business grew, Caleb, Eli, and Travis took their turns as his helpers during the summers in northeast Dallas. He retired in 2022.
In his retirement, he began working out again. His daily regimen included walking 2 miles with dogs Harley and Otto and sometimes son Travis, swimming 70 laps with flip turns, and cycling 20 miles around White Rock Lake. He enjoyed organizing his garage; talking daily on the phone with his siblings and Alana, Eli, and Zane; listening to blue grass and classical music; discussing politics with any available audience; helping neighbors with home repairs; studying Bible commentaries; reading crime and spy novels, biographies, and nonfiction; shopping but only on Amazon and at Costco; catering to his dogs; and completing Jan’s “honey-do’s.”
Roger is preceded in death by his parents C. B. and Carlene as well as his beloved pups Bo, Rosie, Toby, and Caleb’s Annie. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Jan; grown children Alana, Caleb, Eli, Travis, and Zane; siblings Barbara and husband Gary, Chuck and wife Kathy, and Carl and wife Pat along with many nieces and nephews, cousins, in-laws Lori and Aunt Carolyn, and dear Aunt Fran and Bob. Harley the Siberian Husky and Otto the Rottweiler mix, both rescue dogs, miss him terribly.
His razor-sharp wit, clever banter, abundant instructions, magnanimous generosity, and Frito-loving heart will be sorely missed and long remembered. Rest in peace and rise in glory, Rog, Dad, neighbor, brother, friend.
