Ronald Lee Morton, age 78, passed away peacefully on September 22nd, 2023, at Methodist Medical Center in Richardson, Texas. He was surrounded by his wife of 58 years, his children, and his extended family. Ronald battled cancer for 9 months before succumbing to complications at the end of his treatment. The Morton family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the medical staff at Methodist Medical Center for their care and support during his final days.
Ronald was born on September 14th, 1945, in Altus, Oklahoma to William and Golda Morton. Ronald moved to Carlsbad, New Mexico in the 50s where he became a letterman on the Carlsbad High School football, baseball and basketball teams. He received All-American accolades in both football and baseball and was offered to play professionally by the Pittsburgh Pirates and Cleveland Indians. He also received scholarship offers from around the country to play football, and he chose to pursue higher education at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX so that his parents could see him play.
It was at Texas Tech that he met the love of his life, and they were married on Thanksgiving in 1965. The couple returned to Lubbock and started their family shortly thereafter, and they would spend time living in Kansas, Oklahoma, and Washington state before returning to Texas in the 80s to live closer to family. Ronald spent the majority of his professional career in sales and restaurant management. Later in life he enjoyed spending time hunting and fishing with his children and being with his family.
Ronald is survived by his spouse: Nina Morton, his four children: Ronald, Amy, Jason, and Justin, his daughters-in-law: Michelle and Alison, his grandchildren: Kaleb, Keaton, Virginia Kate, Causby, Cole, Bella, Caroline, Matthew, Benjamin, Jonah, Luke, Sophia, Seth, and his great grandchildren: Jocelyn and Kaydon.
