Ronald Dale Powell's Obituary
Powell, Ronald (Roni) Dale, 75, passed away Thursday, April 2, 2020. Roni was born September 30, 1944 in Houston, Texas, to Edwin and Norma Peace. She grew up in Center, Texas, and moved to Dallas after graduation from high school.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Amber and Jim Craft; sister and brother-in-law Ruth and Steve Mueck; sister-in-law Betty Peace; nephews and nieces Timothy and Becky Mueck, Patricia and Randy Morgan, Rebecca Peace, Kim Schmitz, and Sharon Hutchinson. She is preceded in death by her sister Norma Jene Peace, her son Jeromy Powell, her mother and father, and her brothers Ken Peace and Walter Peace.
Roni was a member of First Baptist Church Dallas and served on staff there thirty years. She began her tenure working in the nursery and preschool department. She assisted Charles McLaughlin in the pastoral care ministry. She served in the business office, tape ministry, and as the church switchboard operator. So much of her life was dedicated to serving the church, which she loved dearly. Prior to her role as switchboard operator on Sunday mornings, Roni sang in the sanctuary choir.
Roni enjoyed music, namely that of Elvis Presley! She especially adored his albums that featured hymns and spirituals. A fan of oldies, she regularly listened to Cruisin’ Al’s Saturday Night Sock Hop radio show.
An avid reader, she loved books—especially cookbooks. Her other passion: collecting handbags—of which she had MANY—mainly in her favorite color red! Roni enjoyed traveling to visit Amber. The highlight of her travels was the opportunity to tour the Holy Land.
Roni was dearly loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed. We mourn her loss, but we praise God that she is in heaven with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. No longer in pain and with no more tears, she awaits—as do we Christians who remain—the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting.
A private family service was held April 27, 2020 at Restland Cemetery, Dallas, Texas. A memorial service will be held September 30, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church Dallas in Truett Chapel.
