Ronald Arthur Schmidt's Obituary
Ronald Arthur Schmidt, 81, passed away on November 19 ,2014. A Memorial Service celebrating Ronald’s life will be held on November 22, 2014 at 2:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church, Garland, Texas. Ron was born and raised in Red Oak, Iowa. After graduating from Red Oak High School, he attended trade school where he took printing process courses. Ron then joined the U. S. Air Force in 1952. Because of his trade school classes, he was assigned to Waco, Texas, serving in the 3500th Field Printing Squadron. He was granted a leave in May of 1953 so he could return to Iowa and marry his high school sweetheart, Ardyce. He completed his Air Force service in 1956. Ron worked for Kraft Foods in Garland for 25 years, retiring in 1992. Because of his great love of music and singing, Ron was a member of the Big D Chorus (SPEBSQSA) for 20 years. He was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church Chancel Choir for 50+ years. Ron was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church, Garland, where he held numerous positions of leadership; he also served as the church’s volunteer custodian for the last 22 years. Ron is survived by his wife, Ardyce, and three children: Suzanne Pike and her husband Rick of Grand Prairie, Texas; David Schmidt and his wife Shelli of Deland, Florida; and Carol Wilson and her husband Allan of Rowlett, Texas; his sister Joy Maag and her husband Bob of Lincoln, Nebraska. His greatest delights have been his six adult grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75238. Memorial contributions can be made to the Memorial Fundor Endowment Fund at First Presbyterian Church, Garland.
