Ronnel Edward Douthit's Obituary
Ronald Edward Douthit, of Lakeway, Texas, formerly of Dallas, Texas, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Saturday, July 24, 2021, following a prolonged struggle with cancer.
Ron was born on July 22, 1943 in De Queen, Arkansas to Vivian Murrel and William Arthur Douthit. He was a child of God, a caring teacher, and a beloved husband and friend.
He grew up in Dallas, Texas, along with his older brother, Gil, and younger sister, Sarah. He graduated from Seagoville High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army. After his tour of duty ended, he returned to college at the University of Texas at Arlington, where he earned B.A. and Master’s degrees, and became a high school English and Alternative Education teacher and a district personnel administrator.
In 1966, soon after returning from military duty, Ron married Sheila Richburg who was also a teacher. They spent 55 wonderful years together. They continued their formal education, traveled, and enjoyed working with their students and colleagues.
Ron was a man of many interests, talents, and skills. Most of all, Ron loved God. He was a Bible student who loved to share the word of God with others. In his wallet he carried a calling card which he designed. The scripture he included was Micah 6:8 - “He has told you, O man, to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God.”
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother. He is survived by his wife, Sheila Douthit; his sister, Sarah Stambaugh; a nephew, John Edwin Douthit; two nieces, Erin Stambaugh and Jennifer Polley; sister-in-law, Eddie Douthit; and other beloved family members and friends.
A celebration of Ron’s life will be on Monday, August 2, 10:00 am, Restland Memorial Park, Dallas, with burial to follow at Grove Hill Memorial Park, Dallas, TX.
Here are Christian principles for living that reflect Ron’s legacy:
· Love - Love God with all your heart. Love thy neighbor as thyself.
· Honor - Honor others through kindness, truthfulness, and trust worthiness
· Trust in God - Do not be anxious or afraid, but live through the promises of God.
· Witness to Others - Share God’s love by both word and deed.
And finally, Psalm 118:24 - “This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
