Rose Marie (Bentsen) Benton's Obituary
Rose Marie (Bentsen) Benton, was born on November 9, 1929 to parents Elmer and Marie Bentsen. She graduated from McAllen High School, then later went off to attend Hockaday Junior College in Dallas where she graduated. After doing so, Rosie decided to head to New York City where she began a modeling career for 2 years. She later returned home to Dallas, Texas where she attended SMU and became a Pi Beta Phi. “Not only was she a sister, she also wrote one of their earlier anthem songs”. Throughout Rosie’s life she accomplished many great things, such as writing the music for the play “Papa Was A Preacher” and was the executive producer for the movie “Papa Was a Preacher”. She was a choir director for the children’s choir at Spring Valley Methodist Church. She not only was the coordinator of The Girl Scout’s for the Arrowhead region, she was a leader for both of her daughters Brownie, and Girl Scouts tribes. Rose was an honorary member of Dallas Women’s Club and Marianne Scruggs Garden Club. She was also an active member in the United Methodist Women.Nothing was too small, nor to big for Rosie, and once she set her mind to it there was no changing it, and she showed it with all her love, and dedication. One of her most memorable attributes was Trinity River Mission where she tutored and cared for young children. Rosie would cook night and day for Thanksgiving to ensure all the families that were part of Trinity River Mission had a wonderful Thanksgiving, and felt how much she loved, and cared fro them.Rose Marie was a faithful Christian, and dear sweetheart who had a smile that would light up any room, and a presence that was so angelic.Rose Marie’s greatest achievement, and most prized possession was her marriage of 66 years, and being the mother of their 5 wonderful children, Don (Shelley), Donna, David (who precedes her in death), Dallas (Stacy), and Deborah (Jacob), 7 grandchildren, Bonnie (Michael, Michael, Tre, Collin, Stephanie, Cody, and Paige, and 4 great grandchildren, Nikki, Katie, Jackson, and Kenzie. Also her honorary children, Tomesha, Clayton, and Ruth.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the CC Young Benevolence Fund.The Celebration of Life and memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Richardson, 503 N Central Expy, Richardson, TX 75080, Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at 11:00am
