Rose L. Minnerly's Obituary
Rosalys Ligon Minnerly, age 91, passed away peacefully at home on June 5, 2016 after a brief battle with cancer. Rose was born July 4, 1924 in Denton, TX, the daughter of Lillard and Alyne Ligon. She was named Most Friendly girl at Denton High School where she was also a cheerleader. After High School, she briefly attended North Texas State University. Once the war broke out, she started working issuing stamps and certificates for rationed material and food. On June 28, 1944, she married the love of her life, Claude “Jim” Minnerly, who was in the Navy serving on the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga. They were married for almost 72 years. Rose and Jim loved to go on cruises (about 18 of them) and she was an avid bridge player, playing in multiple bridge clubs up to four times a week. Rose worked for Garland ISD as an executive secretary to the superintendent of schools until she retired in 1986. Rose is survived by her husband, Claude “Jim”, daughter Martha Mitchell and her husband, Steve of Greenville, son Steve Minnerly and his wife, Sonya of Frisco. She also leaves 4 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Rose would always say that she was happiest when she “had all her little chicks around her.” She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Arrangements will be provided by Restland Funeral Home.
