Roselyn Jane Casey Childs' Obituary
With great sadness, we announce the passing of Roselyn Jane Casey Childs, known to her family as Roselyn and to her many friends as Casey. To commemorate her incredible journey, a memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Restland Funeral Home in Wildwood Chapel.
She passed away peacefully at the age of 83 on April 6, 2025, under the care of hospice in Carrollton, Texas. Roselyn was born on November 29, 1941, in Calico Rock, Arkansas. She was the third child of Pauline Sanders Casey and William Sanders Casey. Roselyn moved with her family to Garland, Texas, when she was in elementary school and graduated from Garland High School in 1959. She later earned a degree in Social Sciences from the University of Texas at Dallas.
In 1972, Roselyn married John Childs, becoming a devoted second mother to his daughter, Donna. With great joy, Melinda was later born to Roselyn, John, and big sister Donna.
Roselyn dedicated her career to serving the state of Texas, specializing in social services under the supervision of child protective services. She worked many years beyond retirement age and was a trusted mentor to many of those she supervised. Known for her warm nature and gift of “never meeting a stranger,” Roselyn was recognized and loved wherever she went.
After retirement, she became an ambassador at DFW Airport, welcoming passengers arriving on international flights. She especially cherished greeting military personnel. Roselyn also volunteered at the Carrollton Senior Center. Her kindness and dedication were widely recognized, and her spirit of generosity left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
At the age of 50, Roselyn was diagnosed with throat cancer. Following radical neck surgery and radiation, she returned to work quickly, astonishing her doctors. Over the years, she faced many medical challenges, all with grace and without complaint.
When her granddaughter Sydney was born, she became the pride and joy of Roselyn’s life. Roselyn loved caring for Sydney until she began school.
Roselyn is survived by her daughter, Melinda, and husband Anthony; her beloved granddaughter, Sydney; her brother, Dr. Franklin Casey; her sister, Carolyn, and husband John O’Keefe Barry; her sisters-in-law, Brenda Casey, Marie Childs, and Barbara Walton; her brothers-in-law, Charles Childs and Jim Walton; her half-brother, Paul Casey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
