Rosemary McArthur's Obituary
Rosemary Patterson McArthur was born August 13, 1923 in El Paso, Texas. The eldest child of Frank Patterson, Sr. and Lydia Carson Patterson, she moved to Dallas at seven years old and attended Sacred Heart Cathedral School, St. Joseph Parish School, and Ursuline Academy. After graduation she spent a year at North Texas Agricultural College then finished at secretarial school. She worked for Texas Power and Light (now TXU Energy) and then Frito Lay. She married James Lowell McArthur on May 26, 1951 and they had three children, a stillborn Baby Girl, Mary Ann, and Gordon, whom they raised in Richardson. She stayed at home until her children entered their teen years, and then returned to the workforce with the Federal Census Bureau and at the time of her retirement was a department head in charge of five states. She was a longtime member of St. Paul the Apostle Church, the first woman on the Parish Advisory at St. Paul’s, and she served as President of the St. Paul’s Women’s Guild. She was an avid bridge player, traveled extensively, and especially loved spending time with her family. She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Lydia; husband, Jim; brother, Frank Patterson, Jr.; and son, Gordon. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann Hawkins (David); daughter-in-law, Jayne McArthur; brothers Jack Patterson and William Patterson (Diane); grandchildren, James May, Sean Payne, Dana Palacios (Louis), Kara McWilliams (Trevor), Macy Wiese (Ben), and Shaun Hawkins (Carrie); great-grandchildren, Carter and Carrie Palacios; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Sunday, October 23rd from 6-7:30 pm at Restland Funeral Home with a Rosary to follow. A funeral mass will be held Monday, October 24th at 10 am at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Richardson.
