Ross Thomas Anderson's Obituary
Ross Thomas Anderson (“Bo” to his grandchildren) died at home after a lengthy illness on Monday, August 22, 2016 at the age of 79. Ross is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jessica (Martindale), daughter Laura and husband, Brian Bacak, son Russell Anderson and wife, Abigail, son Kenneth Anderson and grandchildren Brenna, Ally, Hannah, Doak and MacKinley. Ross was born in Joplin, Missouri to Charles and Francine Anderson. Growing up in Tyler, Ross and his mother lived for a time in the Smith County jail while his uncle Ross Turner was the Smith County sheriff. He attended Tyler High School graduating in 1956 where he was active in student government and Boys’ State and played football, basketball and baseball and made lifelong friends. Ross graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a BA in business and from Texas Tech with a degree in finance. Ross worked in the mortgage banking industry his entire life beginning his career in Austin at Lumberman’s Investment Corporation. From there he transferred to Fort Worth as Branch Manager and then to Dallas in the same capacity. He then went to work for Murray Mortgage ultimately serving as president. He ended his career as executive vice president of CTX Mortgage, retiring in 2006. Ross was active in the Texas Mortgage Banker’s Association serving as president for one term. Beyond work, Ross loved to play golf, bird hunt, fish and watch sports – especially when his boys were playing football or basketball. His signature trench coat and fedora bore a striking resemblance to one Tom Landry and less savvy football fans often thought Mr. Landry was attending South Garland High School football games scouting for talent.
