Ross Gordon Cummings' Obituary
Ross died suddenly Wednesday morning, November 14th at his home. Ross was born November 21, 1939 in East Orange, New Jersey to Doris Hagerman Cummings and William Ross Cummings, both of whom preceded him in death. While in high school, his parents relocated to Dallas with Colt Steel and Ross graduated from Adamson High School. As a young adult, Ross professed his faith in Christ. Ross attended Southern Methodist University and obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration in 1961. After graduation, Ross worked first as an accountant for Restland Funeral Home then as a financial analyst for Atlantic Richfield and Braniff Airlines. In 1969, Ross went to work for Bob (J.E.R. III) Chilton at his photography company, Keitz & Herndon. While at Keitz & Herndon, Ross also became employed by Chilton Corporation as financial controller. By the time Chilton Corporation was sold to TRW in 1989, Ross had risen in the ranks to Chief Financial Officer and was on the Board of Directors of the company. After Chilton Corporation was sold, Ross retired to spend his time doing the things he loved best with Joyce, his beloved wife and soul mate of 26 years. They loved spending time in the Turks & Caicos Islands on the beautiful water and beaches and spending time with family and friends. Ross also enjoyed taking photos and was an avid reader. He is survived by wife Joyce and daughters Lizabeth Pomerlow and her husband Pat; Mary Jo Bloomquist and her husband Steve; and Robin Verwey and her husband Andre. He is also survived by sister Janet Owens and her husband, Ace, niece Lauren and nephew Zachary Owens. He is survived by 6 grandchildren Kellie Shaffer, John Shaffer and Bryan, Pat, Katie and Riley Pomerlow. He is also survived by mother-in-law Berniece Hamilton, sister-in-law Kathy Hough and nieces Laura and Rachel Hough of Lebanon, Missouri. In addition to family and friends, Ross will be sorely missed by his many island friends in ‘Provo’, tennis friends at T-Bar-M Racquet Club and his very devoted furry friends, wheaten terriers Sander and Carly. A memorial service will be held at Restland Funeral Home’s Wildwood Chapel, 13005 Greenville Ave. followed by an open house at the Cummings residence. In lieu of flowers, you may make a contribution to the Dallas Humane Society.
