Rowena Merryman's Obituary
Rowena Taliaferro Merryman – Meema – Our Angel, passed peacefully at the young age of 91 on May 28, 2019 in Plano, Texas. She was born on August 16, 1927 to Raymond and Lottie Taliaferro in Winnsboro, Louisiana.Rowena loved her home state of Louisiana and was so proud to serve as its representative in the 1950 Miss America Pageant. A talented vocalist and pianist, she valued her opportunity of music education, studying at Northwestern State Louisiana and teaching high school Glee Club.She married Clarence James Merryman on January 13, 1951 in Winnsboro, Louisiana and soon moved to Texas where they raised their four children. Ro continued to share her love of music throughout her life with her family, friends, and community. One of her greatest joys was accompanying the musical performances of her children and grandchildren as well as their little friends and neighbors. Later, approaching her 80’s, Ro embraced her role as a sing-along accompanist with memory care residents.She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Jimmy, and her beautiful daughter Cece. Rowena is survived by her son Dr, Jim Merryman and Cindy of Austin, daughter Carol Games and John of Lubbock, daughter Beth Negoslawski and Marty of Prosper, 11 dear grandchildren, and her 9 precious great-grandchildren. We will miss her incredible grace and selflessness, her sweet smile and loving pats.The family wishes to extend the most heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to Sunrise of Plano.A gathering for Rowena – Meema – Our Angel will be Saturday, June 1st at 10:00 a.m. in Restland’s Wildwood Chapel. Burial will immediately follow the service.
