Roxie Ann Roddy's Obituary
Roxie Ann Roddy ”Judy” was born on February 12, 1949 to Jewel Bo Beaver and Jessie Mae Hopkins. She spent her youth in Oklahoma where she graduated from Altus High School. She passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at the age of 71 after complications from a brief battle with Covid-19.
Roxie met her husband Jake, who she was married to for 38 years while he was stationed at Altus Air Force Base. She was a military spouse with her husband for 20 years and was stationed in Japan, Spain, Texas, Ohio and California. She was active in the military community and retired in 2003 after working 24 years for the federal government.
After Jake's retirement, the family relocated to Southern California and then Plano, Texas. While Roxie didn't have a home church in Texas, she was a member of Living Word Baptist Church in Riverside where she also served as the Communications Director.
Roxie enjoyed gospel music, was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan and an avid fan of basketball which she also played high school.
Roxie was proceeded in death by the love of her life, Jake Roddy; parents, Jewel Bo Beaver and Jessie Mae Hopkins; “Granny" Colene Lee-Washington; "Grandad” Louie Lee; sisters, Jeanette Deshazer and Jewelline Garland-King, brother Bobby Jo Hopkins.
She is survived by daughters, Lisa Roddy and Sheryl Roddy; granddaughter, Jasmine Barnes; brothers, Philip and Jackie Carruthers and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins including Pinkie Doyle, Curtis Deshazer, Mashonda Deshazer, Johnnie Deshazer, Cathy Kennedy and Latanya Jerome Morgan.
Her family would like to thank the employees of Atria Carrollton and Encore Memory Care Day Center for their compassion and care of Roxie.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions there will be a private visitation/funeral ceremony and a memorial service will be held later at the convenience of the family
