Roy E. Miller's Obituary
Our beloved Roy went peacefully into the arms of his Lord on March 29, 2016 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Roy, the son of Marian and Judd Miller, was born on September 25, 1939 in Austin, Texas. He attended the University of Texas with a Navy Scholarship and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering. He was an elected member of Tau Beta Pi, an Engineering Honors Society, and a proud lifelong member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. After graduating, he served his country as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam aboard the USS Ticonderoga flying the F-8 Crusader. During his service he was awarded the Air Medal with 7 Oak Leaf Clusters, one Navy Unit Commendation, a National Defense Service Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Vietnam), and two Navy Commendation Medals. Following his naval tour of duty, Roy began a 32 year career flying for Continental Airlines. During his tenure, he flew four different types of planes and logged over 28,000 flying hours. When he wasn’t at 35,000 feet, he was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed doing both with his brother Judd Jr. Roy is survived by his wife of 40 years; Linda, his brother and wife Patricia of Cuero, TX; his son Roy Jr. and wife Zoe of Santa Rosa, CA with their sons Duncan and Nicholas, and his son Guy of San Diego, CA and his wife Jennifer and their daughter Violet. Thanks to all those involved in his care at Fountain View-Highland Springs and a special thank you to our friends Natalee Johnson and Jeannetta Thompson for the loving care they gave Roy. Also, thank you to his hospice nurse Lainie Caldwell and the Visiting Nurses Association of Collin County. A service will be held at the Dallas Fort-Worth National Cemetery on Wednesday, April 6th at 1:15 p.m. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Alzheimer’s Association and/or the Visiting Nurses Association.
