Roy Leo Newport's Obituary
Born January 4, 1948 in Bartow, Florida and passed away peacefully on November 20, 2019 in Dallas, TX. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Barnabas Presbyterian Church (1220 W. Beltline Road) in Richardson, TX 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 21, 2019. A reception will follow at the church.Leo is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Diggs Brown Newport and their loving cat, Jelly Bean.He met his future wife Margaret Diggs Brown in 1968 at Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma. It was love at first sight for both of them. They were married in 1971 in Duncan, Oklahoma at the home of the bride. Leo’s life was well-lived.He received his Bachelor of Science in Geology in 1971 and followed with a Masters in Geology at the University of Texas-Dallas in 1973. Leo later earned his Ph.D in Geology from the University of Texas-Dallas in 1978.He started his career with Enserch Exploration Inc. in Dallas while studying for his Ph.D and worked there for 22 years. Leo then created his own consulting company and was sought out by many for his expertise with oil and gas exploration.During their wonderful 48 years of marriage, Leo and Margaret traveled extensively. Favorite places included France, Brazil, Egypt, Germany, England, Holland, Austria, Italy and all over the United States, including Alaska.Leo was a voracious reader of all realms of literature especially American history.Leo and Margaret have been long-time members of the Dallas Opera, the Dallas Theatre Center and the Richardson Theatre Center.In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Huntington’s Disease Society of America at hdsa.org.
