Roy Shelby's Obituary
SHELBY, SR. ROY L. Born August 26, 1909 went to be with his Lord and Savior and his beloved wife of 54 years, Helen on January 13, 2007. He is also preceded in death by his brother, Charles Petty Shelby and sister, Christine Madden. Survivors include 2 sons, Roy L. Shelby, Jr. and wife Judy, Bill Shelby and wife Judy; 5 grandchildren: Melissa Walker and husband Steve and their son Brixton; Kimberly Shelby; Kevin Shelby; Trey Shelby and Rodney Shelby; niece; Martha and husband Ron, nephew; Charlie and wife Patrice and their family; and sister-in-law Elizabeth Shelby. Roy started the Roy L. Shelby company in 1945 but was later changed to Shelby Office Supply when his brother, Charles Shelby, joined him in the business. Shelby Office Supply was in downtown Dallas and was one of Dallas’ oldest and largest office supply dealers. It was sold in 1975, he then started Shelby Specialty Company in January of 1976. His sons worked side by side with him for many years at Shelby Office Supply until he assisted them in opening their own office supply which was Preston Center Office Products. He was a very faithful member of First United Methodist Church of Dallas since 1945. Roy was an avid golfer and enjoyed working out at Bally’s “spa” with all of his friends three times a week. Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at Restland Funeral Home. Services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 18, 2007 at Restland Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First United Methodist Church of Dallas, Ross and Harwood, Dallas, TX.
