Roy Wayne Simmons' Obituary
A Celebration of Life for Roy Wayne Simmons, 77, of Richardson will be held at 2 pm Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at First United Methodist Church in Plano with Pastor Matt Gaston and Pastor Jack Albright officiating. Roy passed away Wednesday afternoon surrounded by family. The family will receive friends at their home following the service and reception at the church.Roy was born in Longview, Texas on August 31, 1941, to Lynn and Helen Simmons. He graduated from Longview High School in 1959 and attended Centenary College of Louisiana where he met his wife, Judy Walzel, across a ping pong table in the Student Union Building. He won……. The game and the girl! They were married on July 20, 1963, and were married for over 55 years. He started his career at U.S. Steel, then worked for Cleveland Metal Abrasives, Metal Parts and Equipment, and Midvale Industries. In 1985, he opened his own business, S&H Equipment, and Supply, Inc. He was a 50-year member of the American Foundry Society and received the 2018 Harley Scoggins Memorial Award for outstanding contributions to the foundry industry. He loved his family, his friends, his dogs, and golf. He loved to tease his four granddaughters and just about anyone else who would join in the fun. His many friends included those from high school, college, church, work, and neighborhoods. During his 2 & 1/2 year battle with cancer, he seldom complained and loved to make his caretakers laugh. He loved his dogs, especially his 3 rescued Golden Retrievers. He enjoyed golf and his golfing buddies.He was preceded in death by his parents, Lynn and Helen Simmons. He is survived by his devoted wife, Judy Simmons; son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Connie Simmons of Krum, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Brenna and Jason Ledbetter of Plano, granddaughter Savannah and husband Ty Robertson, and granddaughters Bradie, Briley and Brittlee Simmons. He is also survived by his sister, Carol Grimes, and nephews, Eric and Jason Grimes.The family requests that any memorial donations be made in Roy’s name to Plano First United Methodist Church.
