Roy Bruce Snodgrass' Obituary
How do you sum up a life of a soul so beautiful and talented, so generous, loving, funny, and kind? There’s no possible way to do so; but, we, the family of Roy Bruce Snodgrass, can tell you that Roy lived, breathed, embodied, and stood for every bit of these noble human qualities. That was Our Roy!We could describe him even further by telling you that Roy never met a stranger. He was exuberant, funny, and a quick wit. He stood up for those who were down-trodden or unfairly treated. He championed what was right and just.Roy was relentlessly devoted, loving, and caring to all his family: his wife, Julie; his parents, Nancy and Jim Hodges; his father- and mother-in-law, Robert and Connie Corbell; sisters, Carla Drain and Kim Jones; brothers-in-law, Robert Corbell, Jr and John Panozzo; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Panozzo and Linda Corbell, as well as his nieces and nephews, and loving friends and colleagues.Roy was born on May 1, 1964, in Amarillo, Texas to Jerry Snodgrass and Nancy Snodgrass Hodges. Growing up, one of the things Roy loved to do most of all was spend time with his grandparents, Royice (“Papaw”) and Stella (“MeMe”) Rae, in Rockdale, Texas. He especially loved to go arrowhead hunting and fishing with Papaw in Rockdale.Roy was a very talented musician—a jazz drummer (a “straight-ahead” jazz drummer, he would emphasize). He was the percussion section leader of the Lakeview Centennial High School Band, jazz ensemble drummer, and held the honor of being a member of the Texas All-State Band in 1982, his senior year. Although Roy and Julie were in the LCHS Band together, Roy, as Julie puts it, was a handsome, cool-guy drummer—way out of her league! But, years later, they met again at a band member get-together/reunion, began dating…and the rest is history. Roy and Julie were happily married for 14 years.Following high school, Roy went to North Texas State University where he earned his Bachelor of Business Administration degree and continued to play the drums professionally while in college and throughout his life. He was an award-winning salesman for Western Publishing Company and later worked for the Department of Homeland Security.A viewing will be held at on Friday, September 7, 2018, beginning at 2pm at Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Ave, Dallas, TX 75243. At a separate, still to be determined day and time, and per Roy’s wishes, he will be cremated and ashes scattered where he loved to watch birds and wildlife, especially hummingbirds.Although there will not be a service at the present time, the family wishes to extend an open invitation to all friends and family–all who loved Roy—to a “Celebration of Roy’s Life” ceremony on Saturday, September 15, 2018, from 4:00 pm-6:00 pm at: 4426 Scenic Circle Dr. Garland, TX 75043 Here, on 9-15-18, we would dearly love for all to come together for fun, laughter, and fellowship in order to supremely honor our Roy!Roy leaves us now with sad and heavy hearts, but, we take comfort in knowing we will see him again!
