Roy Vern Spillner's Obituary
Born August 19, 1926 in Topeka, KS and passed away January 14, 2015 in Dallas, TX. Survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Marjorie Wingate Spillner of Dallas, TX; and daughters, Dawn Dushayne Spillner, Atlanta, GA, Cassandra (Cassie) Michelle Spillner, Phoenix, AZ. Roy, known as “Corky” to family and friends, was a loving husband and father, dedicated to his beautiful wife, Marjorie and daughters, Dawn and Cassie. Corky and Marjorie met in 1951 when both worked at Braniff International Airways. Shortly after the birth of daughter Dawn, he began his long career as federal air traffic controller at Dallas Love Field. His career with the FAA spanned 40 years, and at the time of his retirement in 1997 from FAA service as a controller at DFW International, he was the oldest active air traffic controller at a major airport facility in the U.S. He received commendations upon his retirement from U.S. President Clinton and Texas Governor Bush for his long years of service to the FAA. He loved bowling, tennis, traveling the world with Marjorie and his girls, passionately supporting Texas Longhorn football, and the family pets, especially his “buddy” Jerry. He was loved dearly by all who knew him and will be greatly missed. Service will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, January 18, 2015 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 11425 Marsh Ln., Dallas, TX 75229 with visitation 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Entombment will take place at 10:00 am, Monday, January 19, 2015 at Restland Memorial Park, Chapel Gardens Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church or the ASPCA.
