Royaldo Cavero Samaniego, born January 20, 1955, in Calamba City, Philippines, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2024, at 10:59 PM, surrounded by family, friends, love, and music. He was 69 years old.
Royaldo was the beloved son of Rogelio Samaniego and Esperanza Samaniego Zanders. He was the devoted husband of Emelda Samaniego, and together they built a life centered around family, love, and laughter.
He is survived by his loving wife, Emelda; his sister Rhida Dalmacio (married to Egberto Dalmacio); his brothers Raneo Samaniego (married to Melissa Samaniego) and Rojino Samaniego (married to Pamela Samaniego). He was a proud father to Iris Samaniego Foisset, Linette Samaniego Corpuz, Ronald Samaniego, Katie Ostrom Samaniego, John Eric Foisset, and Brian Corpuz. His legacy lives on through his cherished grandchildren, Blakely Samaniego Corpuz, Joie Jasmin Foisset, and Kaisen Alexander Foisset.
Royaldo received his early education at Ateneo de San Pablo Jesuit School and later earned a degree in Computer Science from Manila Data College. In 1977, he moved to Chicago, Illinois, where he began his career in the hospitality industry, working in the dining room at the renowned Cricket’s restaurant located in the Tremont Hotel.
In April 1981, Royaldo moved to Dallas, Texas, to assist in opening the prestigious Mansion on Turtle Creek. His passion for food and hospitality continued to flourish as he later transitioned to a career with the United States Postal Service (USPS). However, his love for culinary arts never waned, and in August 1994, he opened Palayok Restaurant in Richardson, TX, where he brought the flavors of the Philippines to the local community.
Better known to his friends as Roy, he was a man who cherished family above all else. He found joy in food, family gatherings, laughter, and sharing his love for culinary arts. He had a keen sense of fashion, a deep appreciation for music, and a passion for dancing and singing. Whether he was watching YouTube or the Food Network, he was always inspired by new culinary adventures.
Royaldo will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His warmth, generosity, and love for life touched the hearts of many. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and delicious memories that will be cherished by his family and friends forever.
