Ruby Grubbs' Obituary
February 13, 1932 – May 29, 2018Ruby Juanita Turner was born to Ervin Turner and Penny Lillian Frazier in Seagoville, Texas. She was the youngest of six children: Erwin, Marie, Raymond, Malcolm and Ervin. When Ruby was just two years of age, her father died leaving her mom as a single mom during the Great Depression. As a child, Ruby worked beside her family picking cotton in the fields helping make ends meet — the roots of her strong constitution and lifelong dedication to family.Ruby graduated in 1949 from Seagoville High School making her the first in her family to graduate. After a few brief jobs in the Dallas area, she met Billy Joe Grubbs whom she married on June 16, 1951. She centered her life around being a devoted wife to Bill and the best mother ever to their four children: Penny, Paul, Mike and Amy. There was nothing Ruby wouldn’t sacrifice for her family and friends.After all of her children were in school, Ruby began working for Dallas Independent School District at Robert T. Hill Junior High and later at Bryan Adams High School. Believing in the value of education, Ruby began taking evening and summer college classes at Eastfield Community College receiving her Associate of Arts Degree and then later continued to work toward her Bachelor’s Degree at UTA.In 1972, her college education was interrupted with a cancer diagnosis. Although her doctors gave her slim chances of survival, Ruby defied the odds with her Christian faith and sheer determination to finish raising her family. Ruby loved her family, friends, ballroom dancing, beautiful flowers and anything red in color earning her the nickname “Ruby Red”. She always believed in the best of everyone, making people smile, and helping the less fortunate.At 86 years of age, Ruby gained her heavenly wings joining her beloved husband of 65 years, her oldest daughter Penny, her parents, stepfather, J.R. Judge, grandchildren Malcolm and Lezlee, and all her siblings and in laws with the exception of one surviving sister-in-law, Kathryn Turner.Survivors include sons, Paul Grubbs and wife Shannon; Mike Grubbs and wife Regina; daughter Amy Ward and husband John; son-in-law James “Hut” Hudson; grandchildren: Michael, Todd, Ian, Trey, Spencer and Alyssa; special cousin Irene Marshall; her forever friends, Jo Ann Sealey, Addie Waldrop and Sue Bryan; numerous nieces, nephews and other friends and family.Visitation will be at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas on Sunday, June 3, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The funeral will be at the Restland Chapel on Monday, June 4 at 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations can be made to those who kept wonderful care of our beloved Ruby Red this last year: Hospice of Wichita Falls, 4909 Johnson Rd., Wichita Falls 76310, the Employee Fund at Presbyterian Manor, 4600 Taft Blvd., Wichita Falls, TX 76308 or the charity of choice.Funeral arrangements for Ruby Grubbs have been faithfully entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Cemetery, which is located at 13005 Greenville Ave., at the intersection of Restland Road, Dallas, Texas 75243, and can be reached at (972) 238-7111.
