Ruby Lee Smith's Obituary
Ms. Ruby Smith was born on September 1, 1927 to Ruben and Alma Tilley in Jacksonville, Texas. She finished her education at Frederick Douglas High School, and later went on to earn both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at what is now Prairie View A&M University. On December 18, 1954, she married the love of her life, Ranie Smith, and to this union three children were born.Ruby accepted Christ at an early age, later she joined North Park C.M.E. Church where she served dutifully on the Stewardess Board, sang in the choir and helped out wherever she could. Ruby enjoyed cooking, socializing at the K.B. Polk Senior Center and spending time with her family, her home was always the center of all family celebrations.Ruby was employed by the Dallas Independent School District where she served as a Home Economics Teacher before retiring in 1985. She was a popular teacher and also the sponsor of the H.E.C.E. (Home Economics Cooperative Education) club.Ruby Smith was truly blessed. She was born on September 1, 1927 and departed this life on October 5, 2017 surrounded by friends, caretakers and family members that loved her dearly. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Ranie, her loving father, Ruben Tilley, mother, Alma Tilley, a special nephew, Walter Parker, beloved sister, Ethel Parker and brother, Marvin Tilley. She leaves to cherish her memory one son, Reginald Smith (Linda Smith), two daughters, Alma Renita Coleman and Zelda Smith, five grandchildren, Megan, Matthew and Miles Coleman, Xavier and Zachary Smith, one great grandson, Max Wright, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 10, 2017, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 Pm at Restland Funeral Home. Service will be held on Wednesday, October 11, 2017, at 11 AM at Northpark CME Church, located at 6725 Tyree Street, Dallas, TX 75209.
