Alice Thorp passed away on July 1st, 2020 at the age of 94 peaceful at home with her daughter Diane by her side.
Alice lived in the Dallas, Texas area for most of her adult life and was devoted to her three children. If it meant setting in the cold watching her, Golden son, Archie play football or any number of sports, she was there. Never letting his feet touch the ground till around 6 years of age .was the running joke in the house because she never put him down. Dad always saying, “Alice put that boy down he can walk”. She would remove the furniture in the living room so the kids could learn to skate. Follow up with all us helping with shinning of the wood floors. Pushing us around on a wool blanket and letting go while we sailed down the hall. Going shopping with Denise or movies with Diane, it didn’t matter she was their biggest fan. Always bragging on her kids.
She welcomed her grand kids and her great grand babies with her big smile and warm hugs. She was looking forward to her trip to Austin to hold her newest great grandson, Dorian, who will be arriving in August. We believe Mamma meant Dorian on her way to Heaven. Nothing brought pleasure like holding her grand babies for the first time or when they came to visit her.
She loved traveling, visiting with family, friends and others she just meant along her journey.
She wasn’t too thrilled at first when Dad mentioned traveling to her after retirement but once she went, there was no stopping her. They enjoyed going back to see friends they meant on their trips. She loved visiting her son Archie and his family at their lake house or across country with Denise and her husband James to see all sorts of sites and visit with friends in Mississippi. Or going to Dallas to visit at Denise’s . Going on her evening strolls around Lake of the Arbuckle’s every evening with her daughter Diane or high in the Rocky Mountains. What every the plan, Mom was up for the journey. She loved to eat out. She didn’t like Mexican food but again once she ate it – she was hooked. Beans, rice and her diet Pepsi. Her smile was her signature along with her kindness. She had an act of remember people’s birthdays. For example while she was so ill a few days before she meant her Lord and Savior, She pointed at her daughter in law, Loretta and said birthday. She was correct it was her birthday.
Mom was known for her chocolate pies, dressing at Thanksgiving among other great meals. Mom knew how to put an outfit together. When Diane was hired for her first corporate job and she called on her Mother to help her out with her new wardrobe needs. Her Mom told her to get in the dressing room and put on every outfit she brought to her. Diane was convinced after that her Mom could dress her for success. Mom was the best speller. No word too hard for her – she probably was a spelling bee queen. She taught over the phone one of her favorite nieces, Priscilla how to crochet.
Once she moved in with Diane she had a wonderful friend circle. Some of her outings with friends consist of Tuesday movie nights and Thursday Mexican food along with a host of other outings. Going to Turner Falls with friends and neighbors that had never been did a world of good for all.
Her love ones will cherish their memories forever. They will remember her as a loving and a kind soul who loved the Lord. The world was a better place while she was here. We will one day see you again but until then she will be missed by all that knew her and loved her deeply.
