Rudolf "Rudy" Hernandez's Obituary
Rudy Hernandez passed away peacefully on June 27, 2022, after a brief few
days in the hospital. Many of his cherished loved ones were able to visit with
him while he was in the hospital.
Rudy was born Dec 30, 1930 in Ennis, Texas to Gus and Henrietta Hernandez.
He is survived by his wife Terrye, his son Darrell and his wife Kari, daughters
Shana Boyarsky and her husband Allen, Serena Lammons, Kathy Myers and her
husband Mike, and Lisa Cates and her husband Marvin, as well has his brother
John Hernandez and sister Caroline Delgado. He is also survived by his most
precious possessions, his grandchildren: Brady Hernandez, Ben Hernandez,
Bella Hernandez, Blake Kirby, Michelle Boyarsky, Spencer Lammons, Amanda
Tipton, and Jennifer Massey. He is also survived by great grandchildren, nieces,
and nephews who brought him so much joy. Rudy is preceded in death by his
parents, his brother Gus Hernandez and sisters Lola Rojas and Delores
Dominguez. He is also preceded in death by his first wife Marie Hernandez and
his grandson Brandon Massey.
Rudy grew up in Ennis, Texas and graduated from Ennis High School. He
enlisted in the Navy and lived in San Diego for 2 short years. He quickly
returned to Dallas where he spent most of his life. Rudy never met a stranger.
He had the incredible ability to connect with people through hometown, work or
sports, but the conversation generally started with a smile or a simple hello.
Rudy had a gregarious personality and was a true people person, everyone
loved him. Some of his most fun times came from when he owned and
operated many of Dallas’s original clubs/bars. It was at these clubs where he
met and befriended many of Dallas’s athletes, coaches, local celebrities and
sports writers of that era. Rudy loved telling all the stories of the good ole days
when he traveled, played golf and traded stories with these “old school”
Dallasites. When running clubs got tiresome, Rudy enjoyed a successful career
in the auto sales industry, spending many great years with Lange Cadillac/
Jaguar.
Rudy’s favorite pastime though was talking sports with his grandchildren. His
memory and storytelling ability will be a big part of PaPa’s legacy. He never
missed a game, dance recital or birthday party. Because of his love for Dallas,
Rudy was an avid fan of the Cowboys, Rangers, and Mavericks….. oh and his
Texas Longhorns!! He very rarely missed watching a game. In recent years,
Rudy was a member of Munger Place Church. His love for the Lord was evident
to all. His Munger Place friends always took care of him and he loved telling us
how he had a parking sport saved just for him every Sunday morning.
We will dearly miss PaPa…. His outgoing personality and his positive outlook on
life will always be remembered. The family will hold a private graveside service
at Restland. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Rudy’s memory to
Munger Place Church.
