Russell Edward Stevens' Obituary
RUSSELL EDWARD STEVENS May 24, 1928 – July 22, 2014 On July 22, 2014 at the age of 86, Russell Edward Stevens peacefully left this life and began a new one in Heaven, joining his beloved wife of 50 years, Annie Mae Stevens, and all his loved ones that have left before him. Russ, as he was known by all, is survived by his three children and their families, Dawna Swan, her husband Frank, Wendy Gholson, her husband Don, Greg Stevens, Sr., his wife Sheri and their families. He had 4 grandchildren, Brenda Swan, Teresa Gholson (deceased), Douglas Gholson, his wife Breegan, and Gregory Stevens, II. Additionally, he had five great grandchildren, Katrina Scheihing, Bradley Scheihing, Brandon Scheihing, Kennley Gholson and Blynn Gholson. He was also blessed with one great great grandchild, Lacey Scheihing. Russ was born in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada on May 24, 1928 and grew up in the neighboring town of Marysville. Losing his parents at an early age, he was raised by his grandparents and many other positive influential people of the town who took a special interest in him. He had a tremendous respect and appreciation for everyone that took an interest in his well-being and future. Marysville was a textile town and most of the people worked and were associated with a Cotton Mill. Many stepped in and offered numerous opportunites for him to complete his education and succeed in life, and succeed he did. He became a wonderful, loving husband, father and grandfather. His family always came first and everything else followed. He shared many stories with his family about the special people and times in his youth growing up. He had a great appreciation and love for all that stepped in to share their lives with him. He continued contact with many of them throughout his entire life. Russ completed his education while working and supporting himself through school. After high school he attended and successfully completed Teachers College receiving a Bachelors Degree in Education and began a teaching and educational administrative career. After a few years of moving his family to and from various towns in New Brunswick, he and his wife decided to take their family to Montreal, Quebec, and there he continued teaching for a while. Shortly thereafter, when an opportunity presented itself he became associated with the educational publishing industry and that eventually brought the Stevens family to Austin, Texas. After many years in the educational publishing industry, Russ decided to continue his education and completed a Bachelors Degree in Science at St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas. He then started working as an insurance claims adjustor and eventually retired. After retirement, Russ enjoyed woodworking and created many beautiful items that he shared with family and friends. After being widowed in 2000, Russ stayed in the home he shared with his wife and family for many more years, until he was convinced to sell and move to Dallas to “downsize” to a senior retirement apartment community. Russ will be missed greatly not only by his family, but by the many friends he made over all the years of his life. May he rest in peace and joy with his loved ones in the presence of Jesus. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Monday, July 28, 2014 at Restland Funeral Home. Memorial service will be held at 7:00 PM, Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at Restland Memorial Chapel.
