Russell L. Urquhart's Obituary
92, died April 10th, ending a life of service to family, his church and to the community. Born March 13, 1916 in Boston, he graduated with BA and Masters degrees from Boston University. In 1939 he married Phyllis Elliott, then honeymooned cross country to Seattle where he began his 40 year career with the YMCA. He spent 15 years at the Dallas Y and 19 in Philadelphia, retiring as President of the Greater Philadelphia YMCA. He and Phyllis moved to Heath in 1986 where he was a dedicated and involved member and Elder of the 1st Presbyterian Church of Rockwall and past President of Rockwall Rotary. In 1945 as a Lieutenant in the Navy he survived a torpedo attack that sunk his ship in the Atlantic. He is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, a son, Malcolm, and is survived by sons, Dr. Bradford A. Urquhart and wife, Frances, of Houston, Douglas R. Urquhart and wife, Polly, of Dallas, and daughter, Susan U. Higginbottom and husband, Henry, of Denver, plus 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 1st Presbyterian Church of Rockwall, 602 White Hills Drive, Rockwall Texas 75087 at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 20th. If desired, memorials may be made to the church.
