Ruth Flores Barnard's Obituary
BARNARD, RUTH FLORES Passed away September 4, 2011 in Dallas, TX. Ruth, the daughter of the Late Fidencio Villareal Flores and Maria Santiaga Castillo of Uvalde, TX was born November 14, 1935 in Uvalde, TX and graduated from Uvalde High School. Ruth also graduated from Mary Hardin-Baylor College, now the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor in Belton, TX with a Bachelor of Arts and from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX with a Master of Arts. Ruth spent over 30 years as a teacher in the Mesquite Independent School District. The majority of that time was spent as a writer, producer and director in the Mesquite ISD Television Department. Upon retirement, Ruth became active in the White Rock Republican Women’s Club and served one term as President of the group. She also served one term as the 16th District representative in the Texas Federation of Republic Women. Her most dedicated time was spent working in many positions as a volunteer in the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Society. She enjoyed her association with the Women’s Council of the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden, where she served as President for one term. Ruth is survived by her husband, Dr. William K. Barnard; son, Stephen Harold Barnard; daughter, Patricia Barnard Bauernfeind and husband, Colonel Tony D. Bauernfeind, USAF; grandson, Drake Alexander Barnard Bauernfeind; sisters, Tare Mirelez and husband, Mike Mirelez of Cedar Park, TX, Ann Minnis of Garland, TX, Sara Flores of Louth, England and a number of nieces, nephews and other family members. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her honor to the Women’s Council of the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00PM, Friday, September 9, 2011 at Restland Funeral Home. Service will be held at 10:00AM, Saturday, September 10, 2011 at Restland Memorial Chapel with interment to follow at Restland Memorial Park.
