Ruth ( LeVan ) Bison's Obituary
Ruth (LeVan) Bison, 82, died peacefully in her sleep on January 30, 2025, at the Tradition on Lover’s Lane where she had lived for the last eight years. Born on April 30, 1942, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Mary (Lovell) and George Levan, Ruth spent her earliest years in El Reno, Oklahoma. She attended high school at the Ferry Hall School (now part of Lake Forest Academy) in Chicago, graduating in 1960. She then attended the University of Oklahoma where she met her first husband, Richard Allgood, whom she married in 1961. While at the University of Oklahoma, she earned her Bachelor's of Arts in Anthropology. In 1975, after her divorce, she moved to Dallas and had an active life centered around the Unitarian Church and being a travel agent. In 1985, she married Don Bison and moved to Grapevine, Texas. While in Grapevine, Ruth returned to school to earn a Master's in Library Science from the University of North Texas, working for a number of years at the Coppell Public Library as a reference librarian. In 1993, she moved to McKinney, Texas following the end of her second marriage. In McKinney, Ruth was active on the McKinney Library Board as well as an active attendee of the Dallas Opera. Ruth showed great passion in her historic McKinney home and was involved with the McKinney Heritage Guild. Her love for history and antiques were bestowed on to her family. She remained a strong supporter of the Arts and contributed to The Dallas Opera, KERA and The Dallas Museum of Art. Ruth made a great point to never be disturbed during the “Wait, Wait… Don’t Tell Me” Radio program. She loved her books and was an enthusiastic card and Mah Jongg player. Ruth is survived by her two sons, John Allgood of Richardson, Texas, his wife Maureen McGeehan and their daughters, Mary and Ruthie, and Ace Allgood of Minneapolis, his wife Stacey and their daughter Lila. Anyone wishing to contribute to her memory is asked to give to their local library.
