Ruth Carter Brooks' Obituary
Ruth Carter Brooks, affectionally known as “Doty”, of Irving, Texas went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ surrounded by her family on August 9, 2019 at the age of 96.She was born on March 7, 1923 in Little Rock, Arkansas to John L. and Loretta Carter and was the fourth of 6 daughters. She eloped to marry Billy Martin Brooks on January 5, 1941 but, as the story goes, she was back home and in her own bed by curfew. It would be some time later before her family learned she was actually married. This marriage produced two offspring: a daughter, Maureen Williams of Irving, Texas and a son, John Brooks of Crandall, Texas.Doty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She loved her family dearly and counted each grandchild, great grandchild, and greatgreatgrandchild as a true treasure from God. Her thoughts were always on others and never about herself. She was thoughtful, loving, and caring to everyone whose life crossed paths with hers.Doty was a stay at home mom while her children were young, but later worked in the insurance industry for several years. She loved crafts and spent much of her free time tatting, quilting, and doing macrame. She was also a huge lover of crossword puzzles and enjoyed doing the newspaper crosswords on a regular basis.Doty is survived by her daughter Maureen and her son John and his wife Terrie. Four grandchildren: Michael Lawrence and husband Chris of Bedford, Texas, Colin Bayless and wife Anna of Irving, Texas, Barry Brooks and wife Krisha of Heath, Texas, and Alicia Coats, of Crandall, Texas. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, her parents and all five of her sisters, Edith Hardage, Sue Payne, Helen Carter, Martha Talley and Annette Waters.
