Ken and Ruth met in high school, but started dating seriously after seeing each other again at OU where they were both going to college. After graduation and getting married, they spent 2 years in Manheim, Germany where Ken was stationed with the Army. They travelled extensively across Europe during this time and they always remembered those years as some of their most precious memories.
Ruth and Ken lived in Lawrence, Kansas for nearly 10 years, where Ruth raised their 3 young children and earned a Master’s Degree from Kansas University. Upon moving to Dallas, Ruth was an active volunteer in numerous areas, and became the station manager for North Texas Radio for the Blind during the 1970’s. She also was a bookkeeper for several companies for almost 15 years.
Ruth was a member of Lovers Lane UMC for over 40 years and a long-time member of the Redus Bible Class. She was involved with many ministries in the church over the years, including Congregational Care and United Methodist Women. She and Ken were also members of the Swinging Saints Square Dance Club for 33 years and active in the Mended Hearts of Dallas. Through the Mended Hearts ministry, she and Ken visited many coronary patients at local hospitals offering encouragement during their recovery.
Ruth’s family was central to her life, and she loved spending time with her grandchildren, traveling, and playing games with family and friends.
Ruth is survived by her children; daughter Cathy Shade of Carrollton and husband Kevin; son Christopher Hill of Plano and wife Cynthia, and son Kenneth Hill of Ft. Worth and wife Jennifer. She is also survived by her 8 grandchildren: Elisabeth, Rebecca, Sarah, Laura, Rachel, Tucker, Evan and Sean, as well as 4 great-grandchildren: Hunter, Oswin, Willow, and Zephram.
