Ruth Nelle Holman's Obituary
Memorial Services for Mrs Ruth Holman (née Killingsworth), 94, of Kilgore/Lake Cherokee will be held at 2pm, Friday, November 29, 2024 in the Wildwood Chapel of Restland Funeral Home in Dallas. Mrs Holman passed away after a long illness on Monday, November 18, 2024, in Dallas. Ruth was born January 2, 1930 in Murchison, Texas, to Nolan and Allie Killingsworth. She was a Kilgore girl through and through and a proud Bulldog, serving as first chair drummer in the Kilgore High School marching band. She graduated from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, teaching at Kilgore Heights Elementary School in the 1950s. She married George Holman Jr in 1953 and travelled with him across the oil fields of Texas and up to St John’s, Newfoundland. In 1968, they had a daughter Nancy Holman in Andrews, Texas. They moved from the Permian Basin in 1970 up to Tulsa, Oklahoma where they stayed until 1986 when George retired. They returned home to their beloved east Texas and settled at Lake Cherokee. Ruth was feisty and funny, and the best mother her daughter could ever hoped to have. Throughout her long illness, and despite what it took away from her, she still made those around her smile and laugh.
Ruth was preceded in death by her loving husband, her parents, and her brother (Nolan Jr). She is survived by: her daughter, Nancy Holman of Portsmouth England (Erica Pani); four nieces, Sherron Roberts (Robin) of Orlando Florida, Lisa Killingsworth-Cohen of Austin Texas, Elizabeth Killingsworth (Alexandra Olsen) of Dallas Texas, and Andrea Russo-Holman (Vincenzo) of Milan Italy; one nephew, David Holman (Noven) of Los Angeles California; and great nieces and great nephew, Anna Roberts (Nicholas Tu) of Bath England, Caroline Kurth (Austin) of Dallas Texas, and Evan Cohen of Dallas Texas. Also left to cherish her memory are numerous cousins, friends and other loving family members. The family offers a heartfelt thanks to the staff of Oxford Glen, Carrollton Texas. Your kindness and care for Ruth and George was faultless and it made an incredible difference to their entire family. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to: the Alzheimer’s Association (https://www.alz.org/).
