Ruth Ann Joris Long's Obituary
DALLAS, TX – Ruth Ann Joris Long, 93, of Dallas, Texas, passed away on Monday, March 19. She was born in Texarkana, Texas, December 12, 1924, to John Clement and Ruth Octavia Ochs Joris.After graduating from Texarkana Texas High School in 1942, she continued her education until marrying her high school sweetheart, Robert Mac Long in November 1942. They made their home in Longview and then Texarkana. Mac worked for the Texas and Pacific Railroad while Ruth worked in the office of Texas Furniture Co. In 1970, Mac was transferred to Dallas and Ruth worked for J. C Penney in the corporate office for 16 years and made lifelong friends. They made their final home in Mesquite where she lived until 2017.She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, Mesquite.After retirement, Ruth and Mac enjoyed many trips around the United States with their friends, in their RVs. Later, Ruth joined her friends on many cruises and adventure trips to Panama, the Caribbean, Canada, Alaska, Branson, Savannah and New England. Her days were filled with activities for the UMW, Meals on Wheels, Mesquite Garden Club and Book Club. Her free time was spent with her girlfriends playing poker, Rummikub, shopping and going out to eat. She treasured all the wonderful family holiday gatherings.Ruth is survived by her daughter, Judy Jenkins (John III) Dallas and son, Jim (Gayle) Livermore Falls, Maine; grandchildren: Leigh Jenkins Hinkle (Tony) Vincennes, Indiana, John R. Jenkins IV (Mary) McKinney and Matthew Jenkins (Maria) Castle Rock, Colorado; great-grandchildren: Emily, Mac, and Harrison Hinkle, Meghan and Jack (John V) Jenkins, and Mateo Jenkins; sisters Joann Gallagher and Mary Joris, Shreveport and cousin Betty Lee, Texarkana.She was pre-deceased by her mother (Ruth), father (John) and step-mother (Gertrude), husband (Mac), daughter (Barbara Jo Long) and brothers (John, Jr. and Victor).The family wishes to thank Tina and Catherine and the staff at Brookdale Senior Living Lake Highlands for her wonderful care and comfort for the last year.Remembrances may be made in her name to First United Methodist Church, Mesquite.The service for Ruth will be 12:30 pm Saturday, March 24, 2018 at Restland Memorial Park in the Wildwood Chapel with Rev. Earnest Walt officiating. Interment will follow at Restland Memorial Park in the Entrance Garden. Arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home located at 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
