Ruth King's Obituary
Ruth Marie Gerst King, age 94 of Garland, Texas passed away June 5, 2015. She was born December 18, 1920 in Dallas, Texas to Karl and Emma Gerst. She worked at Proctor and Gamble for many years as a Laboratory Tech until she retired to farm life in Garland on Cackleberry Farms. She and her husband, Bob traveled the world, Africa, China, Europe, Canada and South America. She enjoyed playing bridge and reading good books. She and her husband worked for FEMA for a number of years going to disaster areas. She worked as a volunteer at Baylor Garland for several years with over 10,000 hours of service. She was member of the John Markley Class at the First Methodist Church in Garland. Survivors include her daughter, Dorothy Riddle and husband, Reggie; Grandchildren, Robyn Best and husband, Hollis, Russell Riddle and wife, Janna; Brother, W. Dean Gerst; Great grandchildren, Sarah and Mason Best; Brock and Ryleigh Riddle; Extended family, Mike (Teri) Gerst, Barbara (Mike) Bomgardner, Clinton (Joanne) Gerst, Patricia DeMayo, Robert (Peggy) Gerst, Allison (Dusty) Van Zandt, Ivan (Leah) Bomgardner, Diane (Zach) Ventresca, Stephanie Gerst, Kylie and Branson Gerst, Alyssa and Mariah Ventresca, Charles Dodson, PJ Gerst; Step-children, Bob King, Bill King, and Barbara King. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Rudolph Gerst, Bob Gerst and Herbert Gerst; and sister, Dorothy Brown; sister-in-laws, Imogene Gerst and Wanda Gerst; grandson, Randal Riddle; step-daughter, Martha King. Memorial services will be at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, June 9,2015 at the First Methodist Church, 801 West Avenue B, Garland, Texas. Visitation will be in the Garden Room adjacent to the Sanctuary after the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Methodist Church Music Department or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 38101-9929. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
