Ruth married William Lloyd Maness on March 26, 1956, and they had one daughter, Molly Kathleen. Soon after, the family moved to Dallas where Ruth was an active volunteer at church and school functions. She would bake her mom’s famous pound cake every year for the bake sale and this always led to an all out bidding war! She loved to read and would pour over articles and books about fashion trends. She had an incredible eye for what would be popular in the future. Her gift led to a very long, fulfilling career at Lilly Dodson where she was the jewelry and accessory buyer for many years. Traveling to New York, she sought out established designers but also gave opportunities to those designers who were just starting out. Over the span of her retail career she dressed her clients from head to toe for many occasions; from the first time visitor to the elite who shopped weekly. She was an icon in the industry and a forward thinker who was always a bit ahead of the times. Years later, and after working for her dear friend Mary McCauley at her namesake retail store, she retired from fashion. Wanting to stay active, Ruth then devoted many hours to Victims Outreach in Dallas, a free resource which helped victims of abuse and crime. This humble job enriched her life as she garnered relationships from sweet and innocent hearts. It was around this time that she was blessed with the gift of her grandchildren. She did more than just babysit. She also played like a child herself. Hours of arts and crafts, Play-Doh, cartoons and card games, ended with a peaceful nap they all took together! She looked forward to their visits and, likewise they could not wait to go. Ruth appreciated good British royalty movies, musicals, and classics such as The King and I and Pride and Prejudice. In later years her new found love for sports grew, especially golf and football, which surprised everyone. Ruth was the definition of a lady, with a wonderful sense of humor, and a love for the simple things in life…a pretty view, a beautiful rose garden or the sound of rain on the roof. She will always be in our hearts and will never be forgotten.
