Ruth Campbell Porter's Obituary
Porter, Ruth Campbell died peacefully in her sleep on January 7, 2014. Ruth was born in Dallas, Texas on February 10, 1916, the eldest child of her late parents, Mary Louise McCleverty Campbell and J. Vernon Campbell. She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 60 years, Thomas W. Porter, Jr.; daughter, Judith Porter Frydenlund; five siblings, James, Billy, Buster, Corinne and Gwendolyn. Ruth is survived by her son, T. William Porter III and his wife, Patty of Houston; and son-in-law, Gerald Frydenlund of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. She is also survived by granddaughters, Elizabeth “Betsy” Porter Provost and husband, Dr. Pierre Provost of Vancouver, Washington, Dr. Laura Porter Ebady and husband, Sherif Ebady of Austin; and great granddaughters, Amy Provost and Jane Provost. Ruth will also be missed by the many friends she made at the Treemont Retirement Community in Houston, where she resided following her husband’s death in 1997 until her death. Ruth devoted her life to her family and was an avid supporter of her children’s school activities. She was later a docent for more than two decades at the Dallas Arboretum. She believed in thrift, personal responsibility and the Republican Party. She will be greatly missed by all those who had the good fortune to know her. The family expresses its appreciation to the staff of both Senior Allegiance of Houston and Houston Hospice for their dedicated, attentive 24-hour care for Ruth during the last year of her life. A memorial service will be held for Ruth at the Wildwood Chapel of Restland Memorial Cemetery, 13005 Greenville Avenue, in Dallas at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2014.
