Ruth Bricker Porter's Obituary
Ruth Porter, 94, of Grapevine, Texas, was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to James and Gertrude Bricker. Ruth passed away on June 26th, 2022.
Ruth married Breaden Leroy Porter, and they lived all over the U.S. including Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Arizona, finally settling in Richardson, Texas in 1968. She worked for the Richardson School District managing school kitchens.
She was practical to a fault, preferring to keep her house tidy. She spent most of her time outside on her porch, in the garden and visiting neighbors who loved her. She loved to garden and kept her yard and her home well-tended. Her home-grown tomatoes were greatly anticipated every summer. She was famous for her cooking and always graced her family with huge meals for the holidays. The New Year’s Day pork and sauerkraut meal was a standard.
Ruth loved her family. She lovingly cared for her parents until their death. Ruth took care of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and found great pleasure in playing as it kept her young. Her grandchildren remember her playing matching games and building Hot Wheels tracks to race cars with them and celebrating their birthdays and accomplishments. She introduced them to strange bugs and crawly things and collected all of the gifts that her family gave her. Her stories were animated and exciting.
Ruth loved traveling, especially with her grandchildren. She was so open to new experiences. She was a faithful friend and a giving neighbor. She could always be counted on to care for their dogs and cats, water their lawn, and babysit their children.
Ruth is preceded in death by her husband Breaden Leroy (Port) Porter, their son Michael Porter, her siblings James Bricker, Barbara Bricker Hohman and William Bricker.
She is survived by her daughter Kathy and husband Jerry, son James and wife Becky, grandchildren Shannon, Crystie, Katy, Will, and Thomas and great-grandchildren Braden, Jody, Collin, Krystin, Naomi and Matthew, her sister Mary Bricker Macleod, and many nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.
Funeral arrangements for Ruth Bricker Porter have been faithfully entrusted to Restland Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life will take place on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at 2:00pm in the Wildwood Chapel, located within the Restland Memorial Park - 13005 Greenville Ave., Dallas, Texas 75243. Cemetery maps are available at the front desk of Restland Funeral Home, and there is also an information booth near the entrance that can help direct you to the chapel.
