Ruth Ann Ratliff's Obituary
Mother was born on February 19, 1924 in Vickery (Dallas County), Texas and passed away on September 27, 2007 in Dallas, Texas. Her parents were Joe Shelby and Amanda Alice (Shug) Spillman. She was raised on a dairy where she often helped milk the cows. Mother graduated from Vickery High School. She worked at the Vickery Post Office and then for Volk Bros. Department Store. On October 22, 1947, Mother married Marshall J. Ratliff, A Dallas Police Officer and our Daddy. He preceded her in death after 47 years of marriage. Preceding her in death were brothers Virgil Spillman and Joe Shelby Spillman, and sister Mary Sanders. Mother raised her two children, Patricia Kyser and husband, Jimmie(Rowlett, TX) and Joel Ratliff and wife, Sandy(Bentonville, VA), as well as her niece Judy Smith and husband, David(Rowlett, TX). Patricia gave her three grandchildren; Judith (Dumpy-Doo), Joseph (Bubba), and Geneva (Baby Girl). Joel had four children; Veronica, Joel David II, Trista, and Tara. Mother had 2 great-grandchildren. Judy has three children; Dylan, Ryan, and Liza. They will all greatly miss “Memom”. Mother also leaves behind “Rosie”, her Chihuahua. Other survivors include sister, Martha Green, brothers, Frank Spillman and John (Corky) Spillman. Mother also had numerous nieces and nephews that she loved. Mother was a 50 year member of the Dallas Chapter of the order of The Eastern Star and was a past-president of the Daylily Growers of Dallas. She enjoyed traveling to conventions and judging daylily shows. She was a Girl Scout leader and also enjoyed sewing and cooking for her loved ones. Rosary will be at 5:30PM Sunday September 30, 2007 at Restland Funeral Home; visitation to follow from 6 to 8PM. Mass of Christian Burial is 11AM Monday, October 1, 2007 at St.Pius X Catholic Church, 3030 Gus Thomasson Rd Dallas, TX 75228.
