Ruth Marie Rein Hopper's Obituary
Hopper, Ruth Marie Rein ~ 83, a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2011, after a lengthy illness. Ruth Hopper was born August 29, 1927, to Clarence M. Rein and Frances Ruth Brittain in Billings, Montana. Her father passed away when she was two years of age. Ruth lived in Montana until the age of eight when she and her mother moved to Dallas, Texas, and her mother married John William Moran. She attended Woodrow Wilson High School and graduated in 1944. After high school, she attended Colorado State College in Boulder, CO, and graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1948. She met the love of her life, Alfred Hopper, at SMU when he returned from serving in the United States Air Force during World War II. She was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority at SMU and continued her long association, receiving her 50-year pen in 1996. Al and Ruth married on July 13, 1945, lived in Dallas, and then moved to Richardson in 1958 to raise their three daughters. Ruth was a homemaker and assisted her husband in his real estate appraisal business for many years. Ruth was a 51-year member of The Church of the Transfiguration where she served on the alter guild and for many years was part of the 7:30 service breakfast group. She enjoyed bridge, needlework and golf. Ruth lived 13 years with a chronic pulmonary condition, bravely and with quiet strength supported by her strong faith in God, her daughters, their families and dear friends. She was pre-deceased in death by her father, mother, stepfather, and husband of 60 years. Survivors: Daughters and sons-in-law Joan Wilson and husband Mike, Barbara McColm, and Marilyn Woodard and husband Chuck; grandchildren Melanie Trevino and husband Alex, Matthew Wilson, Meredith Dowdy and husband Mike, Ashley Tanner and husband Brian; Erin McColm and Sylvia McColm; great-grandchildren Blake Trevino, Brooke Trevino, Addison Dowdy, and Cody Tanner. Memorial Service: The celebration of her life will be held Saturday, February 12, 2011, at 11:00 a.m., at The Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration, 14115 Hillcrest Road, Dallas, Texas. Private Burial: Restland Memorial Park in Dallas. Visitation: 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 11, at Restland Funeral Home, Dallas. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to The Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration, 14115 Hillcrest Road, Dallas, Texas; The Gladney Center, 6300 John Ryan Drive, Fort Worth, Texas 76132; or a charity of choice.
