Ruth (Scott) Smith's Obituary
Ruth Smith, age 94, of Garland and Holly Lake, Texas passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2020.
Ruth Smith was born on February 2, 1926 in Mabank, Texas to her parents, Ira and Annie (Johnson) Scott.
Ruth Smith will be deeply and sincerely missed by her beloved family, devoted friends and all of the wonderful individuals who knew her and loved her.
She married Kenneth Smith on December 15, 1945 in Garland, Texas.
Survivors include: Daughters, Karen Finney and her husband Chuck of Plano, Texas, Sheila Kay Rountree and her husband, James of Allen, Texas; Grandchildren, Kelly Torea (Hugo), Jennifer Hernandez-Boynton (John Haxton), Kacey Myers (Aaron), Jon Hernandez, Cody Roan (Marisa); Great-grandchildren, Bethany Wheeler, Hunter Gagnon, Garrett Torea, Elijah Tilleson, Preston Torea, Jacob Boynton, Makenna Torea, Abby Myers, Ethan Hernandez, Olivia Myers, Alex Haxton & Corbin Roan; sister-in-law, Betty Kirby and many loving nieces and nephews.
Ruth was preceded in death by her loving husband, Kenneth Smith on August 21, 2003 and her siblings, Lois Potts, Redith Trawick, Loretta Hall, Louise Groom, Bessie White and JR Scott.
Ruth grew up in Mabank, Texas, graduating from Mabank HS in 1943. It was there she met & married on December 15, 1945 the love of her life, Ken Smith. They moved to Garland in 1946 and started their family in 1948, with the birth of Karen and in 1952, daughter Sheila Kay. They were active members of Austin Street Church of Christ in Garland until moving to Holly Lake Ranch in 1984, where they made many special friends & enjoyed a wonderful life of retirement. They were blessed with 57 years of marriage, until Ken’s death in 2003. She stayed active at Holly Lake until moving to Christian Care Center in Mesquite in May 2017.
Ruth was a woman of many talents, she was an excellent seamstress, a fantastic cook and a gracious & generous hostess. She loved gardening and the outdoors, especially enjoying her walks around Holly Lake almost every single day. She gave willingly of her time, volunteering at Holly Lake Church of Christ and her special love, Camp Deer Run, where she gifted any grandchild or great grandchild & other children that wanted or needed a wonderful Christian Camp experience. This is just a small part of her loving generosity to her family. There was nothing that gave her more joy than spending time with her children, grandchildren & greats!
Ruth exemplified the Proverbs 31 Women “She is far more precious than jewels” Her ageless inner beauty glowed with the glory and the presence of God. She was so treasured and dearly loved by all that knew her.
The family of Ruth Smith will receive visitors on Saturday, February 22, 2020 from 1:30 -2:30 PM at The Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral service will immediately follow, beginning at 2:30 PM.
