Ruth Marie Stephenson's Obituary
Born August 23, 1922 in Edna, TX and slipped into the arms of Jesus on January 22, 2009. Suzy did administrative work at Foster Field in Victoria during WWII. Following the war she worked for a bank in Vanderbilt where she met her husband Raymond C. Stephenson. When Ray was transferred to Dallas with Mobil Oil Corp., Suzy began a career with Gifford-Hill. She also worked as a sales executive at the Dallas World Trade Center. After the death of her husband, she returned to Edna to live in the family home where she was born. Suzy was an avid bridge player and was a member of clubs in Dallas and Edna. A series of medical problems finally led her first to a retirement village in Garland and then to a nursing home in Terrell. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kaufman. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank J. and Alice M. Volkmer; husband, Raymond C. Stephenson; brothers, Warren H. Volkmer and Frank E. “Chunky” Volkmer of Edna. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Raema S. and James T. Toney of Kaufman, TX; grandson and wife, Stephen T. and Ashley E. Toney of Kaufman; grandson and wife, Michael J. and Erika R. Toney of Dallas; twin great-granddaughters, Ava L. and Cambrie E. Toney of Kaufman; sister Betty V. Willis of Edna; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Monday, January 26 from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. in Restland’s Abbey Chapel with service to follow at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the building fund of the First Baptist Church of Kaufman or to the “Chunky” Volkmer scholarship fund at the First Baptist Church of Edna.
